What are porcelain veneers?Veneers are a permanent, cosmetic dental appliance made of porcelain. Think of a very thin shell that fits over the front of your teeth.
Issues Porcelain Veneers can FixMost dental appliances like crowns, inlays, and onlays have a fairly limited scope of issues that they can each fix. Conversely, veneers are able to fix a very wide variety of issues and it can fix all these issues at the same time. Here are a few issues that veneers are great at fixing:
|•||Teeth that have yellowed or dulled in color|
|•||Teeth that are too far apart|
|•||Teeth that are too close together|
|•||Teeth that are too big|
|•||Teeth that are too small|
The ProcedureTo have veneers placed is a straight forward procedure that can take up to three visits to our office to finish. Your input will be critical to the process of determining what your veneers will look like as a finished product. We will make sure that you understand the corrective limit of the procedure so that everyone remains on the same page as far as what kind of outcome should be expected.
The teeth that are intended to receive veneers will need to be modified a bit so that they can accept the thickness of the veneers while still appearing to be your natural teeth. Typically, about a half a millimeter is removed from the tooth in order to accommodate the veneer.
After the teeth have been prepared to receive the veneer we can take an impression of them to send to our state-of-the-art dental lab, where they will be fabricated out of porcelain. Once we have the impressions of your teeth, usually the first appointment is finished. If after modification, your teeth appear too unsightly we can provide temporary veneers for the interim period between the first and last appointment for an extra cost.
When we receive the veneers back from the dental lab it will be time for final appointment. During this time, we carefully place the porcelain veneers and ensure they appear natural.
